Salary: £24,000 - £30,000 pro rata, depending on experience and level of responsibility.

Part time: 0.67 over year (£16,080 - £20,100 in real terms)

 

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the development of a new and creative ice cream shop in Abergavenny. Shepherds Ice Cream are looking for a manager to work alongside them and establish The Ice Cream Shop by Shepherds Ice Cream as a destination for good food made on site.

 The Ice Cream Shop is a simple concept offering high quality ice cream, ice cream cakes, coffees and milkshakes for take away. We are looking for a creative manager with a passion for food who likes people and enjoys cooking. The role will include ice cream production and cake making as well as managing the shop and serving ice cream and coffee. At first the co-manager will be working closely with Connie Orbach to establish effective systems and be trained in ice cream making. After this, days in the shop will be shared between the co-managers (each taking every other weekend) and the prospective candidate needs to be responsible and willing to work alone.

This is a new venture so exact hours may change depending on demand and any applicant should be flexible to exploring this over the first few months. As the role is full time in the summer with part time and zero hours for parts of the winter this role would suit someone with other interests or work.

Roles/jobs/responsibilities:

  • Ice cream production
  • Preparation of ice cream cakes and other sweet treats associated with the sale of ice cream (toppings, sauces etc).
  • Serving ice cream, coffee and cakes
  • Managing temporary staff
  • Opening, closing and cashing up.
  • Maintenance of strict levels of cleanliness and hygiene
  • Managing stock levels and production planning in collaboration with co-manager.

 Skills:

Essential

  • Passion for and experience with food preparation
  • Understanding of basic food hygiene and application in a commercial setting
  • Good communication
  • Friendly and customer focused. Must enjoy working with people.
  • Efficient use of time and ability to prioritise tasks, organised.
  • Responsible
  • Good time keeping

 Desired

  • Experience of developing new and different food offers based on seasonality.
  • Tidy and able to present food in an appealing way
  • Barista trained
  • Experience managing younger members of staff.
  • Experience with social media and photography for social media.

Terms of employment:

Five days per week from April to September approximately 40 hours per week.

Three days per week October, December, March and February from half term, approximately 21 hours per week.

Closed November and January – February half term.

 28 days pro rata per year holiday including all bank holidays, closure periods are in addition to this. Two weeks of the annual holiday allowance must be taken in January or the first two weeks of February.

Working every other weekend during opening months, other days worked are flexible.
